Tips on how to foster a healthy relationship between technology and business leadership.

Updated: Nov 24, 2022

Most organizations' success relies on how successful they are in executing their technology strategy. Most CEOs are not highly technical, but they are responsible for leading companies whose success is highly dependent on their technology's strength.

Following are a few steps a CEO can take to foster a healthy relationship between its technology and business teams.

  1. Hire a CTO with a proven record of building and leading teams of world-class engineers who successfully launch products into the market.

  2. Make sure that the technical objectives of the organization are clearly defined.

  3. CTO has defined a clear technology strategy with consensus from the rest of the leadership team.

  4. The technology execution path must be planned and communicated by the CTO and presented to the rest of the business.

  5. CTO should also add value to non-technical areas of the business-like marketing, finance, and HR.

  6. A smooth flow of communication between business and technology should be established. There should be no room for any communication gap between them; even if there is, an efficient CTO is expected to fill the void.

  7. The CEO should value the CTO’s contribution and give them opportunities and freedom to grow intellectually without second-guessing.
